Microsoft is ending support for Android apps on Windows 11, giving users a year to use them on their tablets before support ends. However, if you haven’t already installed Android app support, you’re out of luck.
The Windows Subsystem for Android, which includes the Amazon Appstore on Windows, will no longer be supported starting March 5, 2025. Users who have already installed the app store or Android apps before March 5, 2024, will continue to have access until the deprecation date.
Amazon also mentioned that apps installed from the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 devices will work until March 5, 2025, with some potential issues over time.
The lack of access to the Google Play Store and the quality of apps on the Amazon store may have contributed to Microsoft’s decision to end support for Android apps on Windows. Windows tablets are not as popular among consumers, which may have affected Microsoft’s usage metrics.
While Microsoft is discontinuing support for Android apps, it is still possible to download the Kindle for Android app on a Windows 11 PC for now.
