The Samsung T5 EVO is a rugged and small portable SSD with up to 8TB capacity. It has a 5Gbps USB and a silicon-like jacket that attracts small particles. The drive measures 3.75-inches long and weighs around 4 ounces. It is shock-rated up to 1500Gs and comes with 176-layer QLC NAND.
The drive comes with Samsung’s Portable SSD and Magician software for secure encryption and drive usage monitoring. It is covered by a three-year warranty and is priced at $190 for the 2TB version, $350 for the 4TB, and $650 for the 8TB T5 EVO.
In terms of speed, the T5 EVO is capped at 550Mbps due to its 5Gbps USB. It performs well for a 5Gbps unit, but is slower compared to higher-speed drives. It writes steadily at around 400MBps and is ideal for those seeking affordable capacity from a top-name vendor.
Our tests were conducted on a Windows 11 system using an X790 motherboard and i5-12400 CPU. Each test was performed on a newly formatted and TRIM’d drive for optimal results. It is important to note that SSD performance can vary by capacity and vendors may swap components, leading to discrepancies between reported and experienced performance.
