Slack is introducing “Slack AI” to its customers, which includes smart search, channel recaps, and summaries and a number of caveats. The company has been working on integrating AI into its interface for about a year. Slack was previously talking about a “Slack GPT” app and is now looking to leverage parent company Salesforce’s CRM technology for its sales-based AI, Einstein GPT.
One of the new features, smart search, aims to help users find critical information communicated in various channels and chats. Additionally, chat summaries and thread summaries will provide synopses of conversations for users. However, Slack AI can only index conversations and threads, not documents uploaded to the system or Slack’s Huddles.

However, there are some uncertainties about the rollout of these new features. Slack states that the information provided is not a binding commitment and the release and timing of products, features, and functionality are subject to change. Additionally, the company has not disclosed pricing information for the new Slack AI features. This lack of confidence in their own product is surprising, given the company’s expertise in sales.
