AMD debuted AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1 (FSR 3.1), an upgraded version of its FSR3 gaming technology that promises enhancements in 40 games, both current and upcoming.
FSR 3.1 introduces a “Native AA” mode and separates its upscaling function from frame generation, potentially allowing compatibility with Nvidia’s DLSS or Intel’s XeSS technology.
Titles like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Farming Simulator 22, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, REMNANT II, Starfield, The Last of Us Part I, and The Thaumaturge already feature FSR 3, with 21 more games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, Frostpunk 2, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, set to add the technology.
The initial upgrade to FSR 3.1 will come to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and is expected later this year.
Compared to Nvidia’s DLSS, AMD’s FSR technology emphasizes traditional frame interpolation to create additional frames for smoother gameplay.
FSR 3.1 boasts improved temporal stability and reduced ghosting effects for a better gaming experience.
AMD recommends a minimum of 60Hz for gaming, adjusting resolution and graphics quality as needed. Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) should be enabled in Windows 11 for optimal performance.
With continual advancements in technologies like FSR and DLSS, GPUs can stay relevant longer, delaying the need for upgrades.
