The latest version of Google Drive for desktop is causing major issues for some users, resulting in missing files going back several months. An error with the version 84.0.0.0 through 84.0.4.0 of the syncing app has caused files to disappear from both the local folder and Google’s server. Users have taken to Google Drive Help to voice their frustrations, with over 300 users reporting the same problem. The issue is affecting a “limited subset of Drive for desktop users,” according to a Google employee. Until the problem is fixed, Google advises users not to delete any local files or disconnect their account from the Drive app. Users are also being encouraged to back up their files elsewhere and consider alternative storage services. If you rely on Google Drive for important files, it might be worth looking into another service until the issue is resolved.
